The UN Climate Change Conference COP16, held from December 2 to 13, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focused on combating desertification.
To enable participants to print urgently needed documents seamlessly and in an environmentally friendly manner, ezeep Blue was utilized.
The UN Conference was organized by GL Events, a globally active major player in the event market. SCC, a renowned French IT service provider with extensive experience in successfully executing large-scale events, such as serving as the technology partner for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, was tasked with providing IT services.
As an innovative service provider, SCC decided to offer COP16 participants a simple, reliable, and sustainable printing solution. This solution ensured that conference attendees could conveniently print required materials, such as conference documents, statements, schedules, and more, using their mobile devices at the provided print stations. With thousands of participants from around the world, it was clear that simplicity was paramount. Every participant needed to be able to print easily. At the same time, it was essential to minimize the event’s ecological footprint.
The choice fell on ezeep Blue, one of the leading cloud printing solutions. With ezeep Blue, print jobs can be sent directly from the cloud to on-site printers – eliminating the need for local servers or complex IT infrastructure.
For COP16, a total of 120 printers from various manufacturers were provided on-site. To ensure print stations were available in all key locations of the event, 12 ezeep Hubs were deployed across up to three VLANs. The ezeep Hubs were pre-configured with their MAC addresses in the ezeep portal to enable quick and seamless setup.
During COP16, over 10,000 pages were printed across the 12 ezeep Hub-supported print stations, many of them double-sided. Numerous print jobs were initiated using Android or iOS mobile devices. The printing solution was particularly sustainable, as the CO2 emissions from all print jobs generated via ezeep Blue were offset by the cloud service provider through contributions to the environmental organization Justdiggit. Justdiggit is dedicated to sustainable reforestation methods for degraded areas – an environmental goal that aligns with COP16’s mission to combat desertification.
With GL Events, SCC, and ezeep Blue, COP16 was able to offer a printing solution that met the high demands of an international conference while supporting the event’s sustainability goals. ezeep Blue demonstrated that modern printing can be both efficient and environmentally friendly.
