Citrix, Microsoft, VMware – with established players in the market for decades, you’d be tempted to think that the world didn’t need another VDI/DaaS offering. This has not stopped Google, who recently acquired Cameyo, and when Google makes a play, it’s only right to stop and take a moment to listen.
So what is Cameyo? And does it do anything different? In our first blog post on Cameyo we provide a brief overview and – as you might have guessed – give our take on how to make sure that your printing workflows continue to run smoothly if you do decide to try it out.
According to Cameyo, it would be incorrect to say that it is just another VDI/DaaS offering. It is positioning itself as something different, placing big emphasis on what it calls “VAD”: an innovative Virtual Application Delivery platform which makes it a superior alternative to traditional VDI or DaaS solutions like Citrix or Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
Designed back in 2012 and launched in 2018, Cameyo is designed to stream applications to users without the need for VPNs or the complexity and costs a fully-fledged virtualized desktop brings with it. It’s pure, no frills app delivery, streamlined and designed to work across all devices and operating systems like Windows, Linux, Mac, Chromebook and Web platforms. The Zero Trust framework is adhered to as well. It offers a fully-hosted service which runs on either Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure and a self-hosted service for any cloud or on-premises environment.
As we should know by now, the inherent nature of app virtualization means that printing challenges always arise. With Cameyo, we don’t expect this to be any different. Cameyo only offers basic printing functionalities as standard; for example, you have the option of installing a printer on the Cameyo Application Server or using Microsoft Print-To-PDF to create a PDF for local printing. However, these limited methods do not provide the speed, efficiency, or the required compliance with security regulations which modern enterprises should be taking into account.
Thankfully, there is plenty of synergy between Cameyo and ezeep Blue to make sure that we can enhance and simplify the printing process for enterprises.
Time will tell if Cameyo’s Virtual Application Delivery platform revolutionizes the way enterprises deliver applications. What is for sure: businesses will be the first ones to benefit as Google attempts to shake up the VDI/DaaS market and inject a bit more innovation into it.
However, when it comes to printing from these virtualized applications, there are still the same old challenges to be aware of. Integrating ezeep Blue with Cameyo offers many added benefits which convert into significant cost savings and productivity increases. It simplifies the process, enhances security, and eliminates the need for cumbersome VPNs, making it an indispensable tool for modern enterprises. So make sure you take a look if printing remains business-critical.
