Somehow, despite the very best efforts of IT departments to deliver a seamless experience, this most-basic office function is full of fear and loathing. Read more
Cloud-based services for businesses are web-based applications that run on servers located in remote locations, rather than in-house. When a company or organization talks about 'moving to the cloud,' this marks a shift from dedicated hardware (which depreciates over time) and software (which is costly and cumbersome to upgrade), to a shared cloud computing infrastructure or software-as-a-service (SaaS) that lets you outsource the upkeep, improvement and storage of these applications while simply paying-as-you-go. My IT knowledge is better than average. I work for a tech company, although not in a tech position, but I've learned a lot through proximity. My brother is a sys admin, and he's always helping me out when I have IT issues. Most of my days are spent with super-techy colleagues, and they would consider my IT-skills below average. In startup literature, discussions on perseverance are often turned into an evaluation of whether you should pivot (try something else), shut down the business, or else keep going (stating it's important to persevere and referring to some populist story likeOMGPOPorPinterest or Fab, who eventually made it because they kept going and going). I think it's misleading to founders to pick outliers like these and then tie the two together. Neither angle has anything to do with perseverance - those are tactical business decisions and have nothing to do with your ability to persevere. Perseverance doesn't mean having false hope building something stupid, or working to do work. And perseverance isn't all that special, because it's what all of us have to do. Read more
